I don’t belong here

Site-specific installation, soft sculpture, sound and heart sensor. Made in collaboration with Eelis Kostiainen.

2024
"I don’t belong here" is a sound and sculpture installation. It consists of a soft sculpture made of foam/pillow stuffing recovered by skin colored fabric. Inside the soft sculpture, there is a loudspeaker continuously playing the sound of a heartbeat. This heartbeat is on the same rhythm as my heart. For the time during which the work will be activated, I will wear a heart sensor that sends my bpm data through Wifi to the microcomputer connected to the sculpture. The bpm of the heartbeat played on the speaker is then matched to my rhythm, therefore making the speakers play my heartbeat in real-time. The audience is allowed to interact with the piece by touching and putting their head on the sculpture to listen.
