Lola Barraud (b. 2001) is a French artist, based in Helsinki.  Her practice is interdisciplinary, combining mediums of installation, performance, sculpture, and sound art. She primarily aims to create experiential works which are completed by the audience’s perspectives. Through explorations of love, its presence, absence, and definitions, her practice examines human relationships: how we connect, rely on, and seek others. Barraud's work reflects on how proprioception can be influenced in the physicality of bodies, challenging the boundaries of personal space and intimacy. At its core, her ongoing artistic research investigates the heart, organ and symbol, as a tool for connection.

This Could be our Sextape

Audiovisual installation. Made in collaboration with Eelis Kostiainen.

2024

This audiovisual installation presents two speakers generating heartbeats, synced to real recordings from the artist and their partner’s intimate moment. A small screen displays a text-based dialogue about love, intimacy, and sex, inviting viewers into a half-circle space. The work explores the tension between private and public, revealing societal expectations around sexuality.
